A note on why we started this journal — and what we’re actually trying to build.
Every summer, roughly 30 million people visit the Mediterranean coastline. They come for the same reasons people have been coming for centuries — the light, the food, the feeling that time moves differently near salt water.
Most of them will plan their trip the same way: a mix of Instagram screenshots, Reddit threads, TripAdvisor reviews from 2021, and advice from someone who went to Corfu once and loved it. It works, more or less. But there’s a version of this experience that almost nobody gets — the one where you actually know where you are.
Why We Started This
We are building Marina Smart App — a platform for the maritime world. Boat bookings, marinas, crew, waterfront services, all connected in one place across the Mediterranean and beyond.
But the more time we spent in this world — talking to skippers, marina operators, charter companies, coastal restaurant owners — the more we realized something. The problem isn’t just technology. The problem is knowledge. The kind that lives in the heads of people who have spent twenty summers on the water and never written any of it down.
Marina Smart Journal exists to write it down.
What This Is
Not a travel blog. Not a company newsletter. Not an SEO content machine publishing “Top 10 Beaches in Greece” every Tuesday.
A journal. The kind you’d actually read.
We cover the Mediterranean maritime world the way a good magazine covers its subject — with curiosity, with depth, and with genuine respect for the reader’s intelligence. That means destinations, yes, but also the economics of the charter industry, the culture of coastal communities, the quiet transformation happening in how people experience the sea.
Some articles will help you plan a sailing trip through the Dalmatian islands. Some will explain why most marinas in Europe are still running on spreadsheets. Some will follow the journey of building a maritime startup from the inside.
All of them will be worth your time. That’s the only standard we hold ourselves to.
Who This Is For
If you’ve ever anchored somewhere so perfect you didn’t tell anyone about it — this is for you.
If you run a charter business, a marina, or a waterfront restaurant and you feel like the industry is changing faster than anyone wants to admit — this is for you.
If you’re thinking about a sailing trip somewhere in the Mediterranean and you want to understand it before you arrive, not just photograph it when you get there — this is for you.
The sea has always rewarded people who pay attention to it.
We intend to pay attention.
Marina Smart Journal is published by the team behind Marina Smart App — a maritime platform launching across the Mediterranean.
